Longest Day Challenge 2022

Walking With The Wounded

Longest Day Virtual Challenge 2022

Supporting Veterans and their families

Mission Accomplished!

My Story

I am a disabled woman with Cerebral Palsy. This has affected both my legs and my right arm. Participating in physical events while trying to raise money for causes closest to my heart is at the best of times, extremely challenging and in some cases impossible.

I have wanted to support and raise awareness by participating in an event for Walking With The Wounded since 2017. When I came across the post for the Longest Day Challenge and saw I could participate virtually, I jumped at the opportunity.

My Mission

My starting aim is to cycle to every Barracks in Scotland and my ultimate goal is to do the same for all Barracks across the United Kingdom.

By using my Motomed exercise bike I have set myself a distance of 20.5 miles to cycle nonstop starting in Peebles in the Scottish Borders and finishing at the Dreghorn Barracks.

Mission Accomplished!

On the 18th of June 2022, I participated in my first virtual Longest Day challenge for Walking With The Wounded.

By using my Motomed exercise bike I cycled a distance of 20.5 miles non-stop in a time of almost three hours. My virtual route started in Peebles in the Scottish Borders and finished at the Dreghorn Barracks. I chose this route because I have a goal to raise awareness and funds for veterans by choosing a Barracks for each of my challenges. On the day I found the cycling both physically and mentally challenging and kept reminding myself who and whom I was doing it for.

Being able to take part in this event has allowed me to show my support for Walking With The Wounded and give back to Veterans. I thoroughly enjoyed the training and participating in The Longest Day Challenge event and look forward to taking part again next year.

Through generous donations and huge amounts of support I have managed to raise £775.00.

With sincere thanks...

Walking With The Wounded ‘WWTW’ deliver employment, mental health, care coordination and volunteering programmes in collaboration with the NHS to get those who served, and their families, whether mentally, socially or physically wounded, back on their feet and making a positive contribution once more.

I am extremely proud to have played a small part in raising awareness and vital funds for Combat Stress, who support veterans with their mental health.

I would like to thank Walking With The Wounded for giving me the opportunity to show my support for their charity.
